The walk now leads into Bank Parade. This is a beautiful mid 19th century terrace. Number 13 was the Preston home of Joseph Livesey. He was born in Walton-le-Dale in 1794 and was orphaned at the age of 7. He began work as a weaver, then a cheese manufacturer and a printer. In 1844, he established the Preston Guardian, the forerunner to the Lancashire Evening Post. Joseph Livesey was also the founder of the Teetotal Movement, which started in Preston in 1832 and spread throughout the country. At the end of Bank Parade is the magnificent Victorian mansion, Avenham Tower (Stop 5). Built in the form of an Italian villa, this house was home to the Threlfall family of Preston and dates back to 1847. |
