Avenham Walks - Stop 1 - Preston Parish Church
Our walks begin at Preston Parish Church, St Johns The Evangelist (Stop 1). By tradition the site of the church has been used as a religious building for over a thousand years. 

Originally, the ancient church of St Wilfred occupied the site but was rebuilt and renamed in the 16th Century. By 1853, the building was dilapidated and a new church was erected. The church, with its 205 ft well-proportioned spire, pinnacled roof and decorated window, is still used for regular services.
