Avenham Walks - Stop G - The Ivy Bridge

Avenham Park and Miller Park are divided by the railway bridge, commonly known as the Ivy Bridge (Stop G). The bridge was opened in 1846 to carry the now redundant branch of the East Lancashire Railway.

It was unusual in that before permission to build was granted, it was insisted that a public footpath be built across it. The arches of the bridge previously had large iron gates across the paths, which were locked each night at dusk.

To continue your walk, please follow the remainder of the route of the Short Walk. Follow the yellow dotted path indicated on the map and you will arrive at Avenham Tower
